Phares Electronics Magnetic Sensor Targets and Magnetic Disks

Phares Electronics Magnetic Sensor Targets and Magnetic Disks are very important for industrial machine shaft speed monitoring because they improve resolution for slow speed applications by making shaft speed sensor response times much faster than if there are only one or two targets for shaft speed measurement.

In addition to detecting ferrous targets such as gear tooth wheels, bolt heads, key stock, etc., Phares Electronics Zero Speed Switch Sensors, Digital Output Geartooth and Hall Effect Sensors also detect magnetic targets.  To simplify installation, magnets are mounted in an aluminum disk that we refer to as a Magnetic Disk.

Phares Electronics Magnetic Sensor Targets and Magnetic Disks are designed for applications where vibration, dirt, dust and grime are present.  Magnetic fields are unaffected in these environments and Phares Hall Effect Sensors are able to accurately sense a magnetic target under these conditions.  Even if a Phares Electronics Zero Speed Switch Sensor, Digital Output Geartooth or Hall Effect Sensor is slightly misaligned with a Phares Magnetic Target or Magnetic Disk, they are still able to accurately detect the magnetic target and function perfectly.

 

Methods of securing a Phares Magnetic Disk to a shaft:

  • Bolt the disk to the end of a shaft.
  • Slide the disk onto a shaft, securing it with set screws.
  • Clamp the disk around a shaft.

Selecting a Phares Magnetic Disk

Selecting a Phares Magnetic Disk is very simple. We just need to know three things:
1) The sensor orientation in relation to the Magnetic Disk (Axial or Radial).
2) The preferred method to secure the Magnetic Disk to the shaft.

  • Bolt to shaft end.
  • Slide over shaft end, secure with two set screws.
  • Clamp around shaft via Split Coupling, secure with two set screws.
    (Magnetic Disks keyed upon request.)

3) The bore size (I.D.) required.
